To use your example of Chinese American authors, of the two Chinese American authors on this list, neither are attempting to represent all of China nor are they producing some nationalistic patriotic American narrative. I certainly don't think any of the authors on this list, or most of the critically praised ethnic minority authors in the United States, are praising the enlightenment of American freedom. I think the reason that Americans don't read foreign literature is because they don't want to, whether its because it's an American publication or because of being xenophobic, and not because racial and ethnic diversity are like diverting a massive groundswell of demand for foreign authors.
